HISTORY
During the 1960’s, the late Emeterio Gutiérrez Landin and his wife, María Gutiérrez, migrated to Chicago in search of a better life for themselves and their growing family. They settled in what is now part of the University of Illinois. They both struggled and worked hard to maintain their family, which includes four sons: Antonio, Emeterio, Jr., Daniel and Raúl.
In March of 1962, Emeterio was offered a chance to buy a small taqueria (taco stand) on 18th Steet, from a friend who was also from their native land, Nuevo Léon, México. Emeterio and María took the opportunity and together along with their four sons established Nuevo Léon Restaurant on March 15, 1962. With the help and dedication of their family, friends, and loyal customers, the Gutiérrez family graciously continues to serve you quality food with homstyle service.
